National Park Service
Great Smoky Mountains
The National Park Service installed this picture post in 2016 to encourage visitors to Great Smoky Mountains National Park to become citizen scientists by documenting the conditions they experience that day. Scientists use photographs as records of a scene. We need your help to document the plants, clouds, and seasons—and how they are changing in response to a warming climate. This picture post at Carlos Campbell Overlook near Gatlinburg, TN has one of the best views of Mount LeConte seen from the valley. Mount LeConte has an elevation of 6,594 feet and the overlook's elevation is approximately 2,000 feet. From the overlook, you can see 7 different forest types that are commonly found in the park.
